Gathering for Pastoral Sustenance

GPS focuses on key areas identified in the Lilly Endowment's work on Sustaining Pastoral Excellence:

  • Spiritual Growth/Embodied spiritual practice
  • Development of Pastoral Imagination
  • Creation of a supportive collegial community
  • Development of independence and accountability
  • Support in in learning by experienced practitioners

Gathering for Pastoral Sustenance is the SoMA's initiative to offer spiritual formation, practical education, and collegial support to pastors in their first 5 years of ministry.

Participants will meet twice a year for two years with a cohort of other new pastors in the region. During each three day session, participants will have unique access to Guest Teachers, spend quality time in prayer and group spiritual direction, and participate in group process work and experiential learning. Between sessions, the SoMA provides each participant an appointment with a spiritual director.

GPS is designed to engage a pastor's whole being in prayer, relationships, play, and learning very practical skills to support them in their call. Spiritual and relational vitality is our goal as we create each session for your growth, challenge and learning.
